On-Camera Acting and Casting

Elevate Your On-Camera Acting and Casting Skills.

A practical beginner course for actors starting their on-camera journey.

Have you worked in front of the camera but never had formal on-camera training? Have you done commercials, small roles, or some screen work — but feel unsure how it really works?

This course is designed specifically for new actors and early-stage performers who want a clear, professional introduction to on-camera acting and auditioning.

Led by Hal Masonberg, the focus is on understanding how the camera reads performance, how to take direction, and how to develop truthful, grounded work on screen — without pressure or hype.

What the course focuses on:

  • Practical on-camera scene work in a real casting studio.
  • Weekly exploration of different genres (commercials, fiction, comedy, drama, group scenes).
  • Finding your own interpretation while responding to direction.
  • Watching and reviewing recorded takes to understand what works on camera.
  • Clear, constructive feedback in a supportive environment.

This course offers a structured, safe starting point for actors who want to build solid foundations in screen acting and auditioning.

    Acting Coach & Industry Practitioner

Hal Masonberg brings over 30 years of experience working in the Hollywood film industry, with a background spanning casting, directing, and on-set production.

He began his career as a casting session director, working on projects such as What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, where he developed a deep understanding of how performances are shaped, guided, and evaluated in professional casting environments.

Alongside his industry work, Hal has spent decades teaching acting — including leading workshops in Los Angeles and serving as a master acting teacher for California State University’s Summer Arts Program. His teaching style is known for being clear, practical, and particularly well suited to actors at the beginning of their on-camera journey.

Hal has worked on film productions in roles ranging from First Assistant Director to Script Supervisor, collaborating with directors such as Lasse Hallström and Spike Jonze, and working closely with actors including Leonardo DiCaprio. This on-set experience informs his teaching, helping actors understand not just performance, but how film sets and auditions actually operate.

Across all his work, Hal’s focus as a teacher is consistent: to help actors feel grounded, understood, and capable in front of the camera — without pressure, hype, or judgment.
